How to Float

Before Your Float

We recommend eating a small meal or snack about an hour before you float to avoid your tummy making noises- that way you’ll achieve maximum peace in the tank.

Caffeine and other stimulants should be avoided a few hours prior to your float as this will reduce the chance of jitters and aid in your total relaxation.

Don’t shave or wax in the 24 hours leading up to your float as the salt in the float solution may cause a stinging sensation on freshly sensitised skin.

Floatation can’t be undertaken with freshly dyed hair (blonde/ lightened hair is fine) or if you’ve had a recent application of fake tan.

If you use contact lenses bring a container to put them in or bring your glasses as you are unable to wear contact lenses while floating in the tank.

What is our Dreampod™ Float Therapy?

In your own personal Dreampod™ flotation pod you are separated from external stimuli. With ear plugs in and, if you wish, the tank’s interior lights off, floating in peace the quietness and darkness allow your mind to drift into the deepest state of relaxation possible.

What is in your Dreampod™?

Inside the flotation tank is 500 kg of specially formulated salts added to around 900 litres of water creating a buoyant solution in which you effortlessly float.  This solution is heated to 35.5 degrees C (skin temperature) both for comfort and to achieve an experience of perfect weightlessness.

How does our Dreampod™ Float Therapy Work to Benefit You?

A huge amount of your brain power is used every second in order to deal with the strain that gravity places on your body.

Freed from all sensation of gravity, temperature, touch, sight and sound (which together account for 90% of normal neuromuscular activity), you conserve and redirect vast amounts of natural physical and mental energy.

The ultra-deep relaxation of floating “resets” your body’s hormonal and metabolic balance, strengthening resistance to, and accelerating recovery from, the effects of stress, illness, injury or strenuous exercise.

What is Floating?

Floatation therapy is a powerful experience based on sensory-deprivation where your body is removed from external stimuli and partially-submerged in water that is heated to your body’s natural temperature.

The water is saturated with 500kg of high quality food-grade Epsom salts giving neutral buoyancyto your body so that you float with no physical effort.

Entering the float tank pod you leave all sensory distractions outside. As the minutes drift by your body and mind are gradually stripped of stimuli creating a state of complete peace and relaxation. In the pod you escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

What Temperature is the Water?

Our pod’s water temperature is in the 36.5-37.5 C degrees range.

This temperature range is the same as your body temperature. This similar and consistent temperature means your body receive any sensation from the water creating the sensory deprivation necessary for the therapy.

What if I’m Claustrophobic?

Your float pod at InsideOut Wellness Hunter Valley is one of the largest sized pods on the market. When you're floating it feels incredibly spacious.

There are many testimonials from people worldwide that suffer with claustrophobia who have reported having no problem when floating in the pods.

In addition you are in total control at all times. You can open the pod lid at any time, and while we recommend you close the lid to take full advantage of the experience, you are welcome to leave the lid open if it makes you more comfortable.

A light switch is located inside the pod that you can instantly turn on whenever needed.

Can I Float with a Medical Condition?

If you have a medical condition we recommend checking with your doctor before floating.

If you have epilepsy unfortunately you will not be able to float without written consent from your doctor.

If you have recently been unwell or have any open cuts or wounds you also unable to float until you have fully recovered.

What if I can’t Swim, can I Drown?


The volume of Epsom salt in the water will keep you perfectly buoyant and floating with no effort required.

What Happens if I Fall Asleep?

This is the perfect result!

It’s just so relaxing sometimes it’s hard not to!

The volume of Epsom salt in the water will keep you perfectly buoyant so you don’t need to worry about drowning.

The worst case scenario is that you inadvertently splash salt water into your eyes and in this case we have a spray bottle and face cloth ready in the pod.

Is it Private?


Your floatation therapy is totally private with your own dedicated float pod and en-suite.

How is the Water Cleaned?

Our pod water is run through a sophisticated filtration system for 15 minutes between each float session. This maintains the water quality using both a micro-filter system and hair trap for larger particles.

The water itself is a solution of salt that naturally provides an environment largely unfavourable to bacteria and microbes.

The water is also sanitised using ultraviolet light and hydrogen peroxide, a most effective yet gentle sanitation system for water in contact with your skin.

The pods are wiped with a solution of hot water, vinegar and alcohol wipes each day.

Further, we check the water parameters daily and pride ourselves on meeting the requirements of float tank hygiene maintenance as set out in legislation in the United States.

How Often are Our Pods Cleaned?

Our pods are kept extremely clean.

They are washed with a solution of hot water, vinegar and alcohol wipes each and every day.

What to Bring?

Floating is recommended to be done nude. If you are not comfortable nude then bring your swimmers.

Towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, barrier cream and other complimentary treats are provided! We also have ear plugs available for purchase if you wish to wear them.

If you wear contact lenses bring a container to put these in while you are floating.

A comb or brush and deodorant is handy for after your session.

How Long Should I Allow for My Session?

Please allow 60 minutes for each float session plus time either side to relax and get organised, and to get dressed afterwards.

If you session is a different duration still allow this extra time either side.

How Often Should I Float?

Floating regularly is particularly beneficial as the effects are cumulative.

Will My Skin Wrinkle Like it does in the Bathtub?


The Epsom salt in the water is a natural skin emollient. Your skin will feel silky smooth after your session.

Can I Float if I’m Pregnant?


Floatation is hugely popular with pregnant women for relieving tired joints and in providing much-needed tranquillity.

It provides your aching joints with much-needed weightlessness experienced within the tank.

This is also a wonderful way of spending valuable time alone with Bub. In your third trimester you may even hear Bub's heart beat and it allows you intimate bonding time.

Floating will allow you to calm and focus your emotions before the big day of arrival.

It is also beneficial for associated ailments such as swelling, hypertension, Braxton hicks, insomnia, leg cramps & stress.

While there is nothing to be inherently concerned about through any stage of your pregnancy, as with all medical conditions please seek guidance from your GP/ Obstetrician before booking if you have any concerns.

Can I Float While Menstruating?


Follow the same protocol you would for swimming in a pool by making sure you wear a tampon.

Can More than One Person Float in a Pod at the Same Time?


Only one person in each pod can float.

Do I have to Stay in the Pod the Whole Time?


You are always in complete control of your environment and can get out of the pod at any-time.

That being said the 60 minutes of your session usually goes by much faster than you’d expect.

Can I Float with a Fake Tan?


Floating with fake tan is perfectly fine as long as you have NOT applied your tan in the last 48 hours.

I Dye my Hair, Am I Still Able to Float?


As long as your hair dye no longer comes out in the shower or on towels when you wash your hair then you are ready to float!

I have Tattoos, can I Still Float?


Floating with tattoos is fine as long as the tattoo isn’t too fresh.

We recommend waiting 4-6 weeks after you get a tattoo before floating. Prior to this, not only will the salt water sting, but it’s not worth risking the aesthetics of your fresh tattoo.

Can I Shave or Wax Before Floating?


We recommend that you DO NOT shave or wax 24 hours before floating as the salt solution will sting!

I have Recently Been Unwell, or I have a Cut, can I Still Float?


If you are sick with a cold or flu you cannot float because we do not want to risk spreading those germs to other guests.

Similarly, if you have had Gastro in the last 14 days, you CAN NOT float.

You CAN NOT float with an open cut as the high concentration of salts in our solution will sting a lot!

You can float if you cover any minor cuts or abrasions with a waterproof dressing.
